Press Release
April 6t", 2022
On April 6, 2022, at 1250 hrs. the Kalispell Police Department responded to a report of a suicidal male
walking near the VFW bar in downtown Kalispell. The male had displayed a handgun and stated to
witnesses he was going to commit suicide before walking away. Kalispell Police officers located the man
near the entrance of the Flathead County courthouse. Officers began dialogue and set up what perimeter
they could in the populated area to keep citizens out of danger. Officers negotiated with the armed man
for several minutes while requesting a crisis co -responder, negotiators and less lethal tools. The male
subject pleaded with officers for several minutes to shoot him while making numerous motions to his gun
tucked in the front waistband of his jeans. The male continuously walked away from officers who were
forced to change positions and move vehicles to protect citizens in the area. After several minutes of this,
officers along with assistance from our partners at the Flathead County Sheriff's office, deployed less
lethal rounds multiple times and took the male into custody without injury. The male subject was
transported to Logan Health for Mental Health treatment.
