A. CALL TO ORDER
Council President Graham called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

Staff present in Council Chambers included City Manager Doug Russell, City Attorney Charles
Harball, Deputy City Clerk Judi Funk, and Fire Chief Dan Pearce.
B. DISCUSSION ITEMS
1. Residency Requirements for Emergency Responders �1p
City Manager Doug Russell provided background information on this item.
00:07:08 Fire Chief Dan Pearce spoke regarding his experiences in the past with these
requirements and his reasoning regarding the lack of a need for these rules in the present. He also
explained the Department has lost some good candidates because of the residency requirements.

C. PUBLIC COMMENT
Council President Graham opened general public comment.
D. CITY MANAGER COUNCIL, AND MAYOR REPORTS
City Manager Doug Russell provided the following report:
• Hopefully the Charles Hotel will be on the next agenda, as well as this item.
• The County will be providing advisory board training through the MSU Local
Government Services and let the cities know. The City of Kalispell and the City of
Whitefish will also offer the same training to their board members and will be able to
share related traveling costs. He informed council those advisory board trainings will
occur Tuesday, February I" from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, February Yd from 1-3 p.m.
Pizza will be provided.
• City offices are closed Monday, January 17 for Martin Luther King Jr. day so the next
council meeting will take place Tuesday, January 18.
