Subject: EXTERNAL Outlaw Inn evictions
Dear City Council, Mayor, and other officials,
This incredibly insensitive 1-month winter eviction notice to current residents of the Outlaw Inn goes against who we are
in Montana and hopefully who we are in Kalispell. It is my understanding that if there are or will be any federal funds
associated with this project, federal regulations for eviction must be followed. These regs give tennants time to find
alternative housing or the funds to find a place to live. The process respects the tenants as much as it respects the new
owners.
Even if federal regulations don't apply to this project, it is the local government's responsibility to make this a fair,
equitable transition process and approvals/permits should have been conditioned to allow tenants at least 3-4 months
to move out. Asking people to find housing in a community, especially during winter, that has virtually no low income
housing puts a burden and expense of unhoused people on the community, police, non -profits, and other public service
providers while allowing the new owners to make greater and quicker profits. The issue of the new owners providing a
much more reasonable time to leave, or funds to help them transition, should have been considered in the approval
process. I hope you can address this serious issue immediately. Thank you.
