Tips collected were donated to the Youth Scholarship Fund for underprivileged kids. Halloween Hunt held at Woodland Park, October 26, 2002, There were 52 participants. Parks Department — Ken Bauska, Foreman Maintenance Tasks ➢ Weed eating, mowing, and irrigation at various parks and KYAC. ➢ Weeding, plant removal and winterizing of various flower beds and at Kalispell Youth Athletic Complex. ➢ Trash pickup and cleaning of bathrooms various parks. ➢ Repairs to vandalized bathroom at Lawrence Park. ➢ Mowing at city airport. ➢ Flushing of irrigation systems and winterizing bathroom at various parks. ➢ Dirt, pit -run, backfilling and asphalt at the Kalispell Youth Complex. ➢ Painting of athletic fields and buildings at Kalispell Youth Athletic Complex. y ➢ Removal of sports nets at the KYAC. ➢ Leaf pickup at Parks & Recreation ➢ Picnic table pick up and storage — various parks. The Recreation Department was busy with organizing Little Dribblers Basketball and getting excited for our IOn' annual Halloween Hunt. Kidsports donated $2500.00 to the paving. Parks The Woodland Park lagoon began freezing on a record early date the last week in October. Fish, Wildlife & Parks had some problems with their contractor on the Dry Bridge project. The contractor was dismissed and a new round of quotes was accepted. Schlegel and Sons were chosen and are starting Monday, November 11, 2002 to complete dredging. Schlegel and Sons have an informal agreement to donate time, equipment and personnel to satisfactorily complete the project. NOTE: The sledding hill will be open and accessible to winter time sledding provided Mother Nature gives us adequate snow. The city is smoothing and fine tuning the hill to allow for easier maintenance and safer sledding. Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: Monthly Activity Report for October 2002 FROM: Richard Amerman, Assistant City Engince DATE: November 8, 2002 Highlights of monthly activity for the operating divisions of the Public Works Department for the month of October 2002 are as follows: ENGINEERING DIVISION • Attend weekly Site Development Review Conmrittee meetings. • Met with all local utilities and MDOT to discuss the Meridian Road Project. • Met with City Council regarding Juniper Bend Drive. • Attended white topping seminar. • Attended Streetscape Project meeting. • Began writing part 5 of NPDES Phase II Requirements and completed draft of NPDES Phase II Permit submittals. • Began drafting for the Three Mile Drive/Junior High School water main project. • Conducted survey research, U-Dig prep, property pin search, GPS Field Survey and software processing for Jr. High Water Project. • Located and marked property pins and lines for "Old George" wood pile at request of Police Department. • Assisted Parks Department with perimeter staking at KYAC parking lot. • Responded to miscellaneous survey requests. OFFICE AND STAFF There were 14 emergency call -outs for the month of October: • Water Division - 6 • Sewer Division - 7 • TSS Division - • Street Division - 1 • W WTP - 9 Total — 14 CENTRAL GARAGE 73 repair orders were completed during the month of October: • Police — 16 ■ Streets — 12 Fire - 7 • Garbage - 9 • Others — 29 • Total - 73 • Continued regular maintenance of City vehicles and machinery. • Responded to numerous road calls. • Replaced broken door rods on hopper of Parks' mower. • Replaced fuel pump on Water Department Van. • Replaced air dryer on Solid Waste Vac -con. • Replaced bent center link and smashed hydraulic oil tubes, and power steering cylinder on side -arm garbage truck. Repaired throttle linkage and control wiring on old rear loader garbage truck. • Replaced curtain and modified Elgin sweeper for leaf pick up. • Replaced water pump and belts on the Street tandem. • Repaired emergency warning lights on ambulance. • Replaced fuel solenoid and installed cab kit on the Parks' mower. • Replaced brake rotors and pads on ambulance. • Replaced blown hydraulic hose on leaf mulcher. • Replaced packer shoes on garbage truck. • Started mounting snow tires on City vehicles. SANITARY/STORM SEWER DIVISON • Continued video and jet cleaning of sewer lines Monday through Thursday. • Performed weekly maintenance of sixteen lift stations each Friday. SOLID WASTE DIVISION • Delivered 26 containers to new customers: 4-90 gallon, 14-100 gallon, 1-400 gallon, 7-300 gallon. • Repaired 8 containers and responded to 7 violations. • Continued weekly garbage service and alley cleanup. • Putting City containers together. STREET DIVISION • General sweeping and maintenance of City streets and alleys. • Cleaned City yard and hauled away sweepings. • Raised manhole covers in the 300 block of Montana Street, 46 3`d Avenue WN, Airport Road and Hwy 93, 7th Avenue West & Meridian. • Assisted Parks Department in hauling crush to the Ball Field Complex. • Prepped cement pad for the water tower. • Dug out and patched manhole at 51h Avenue EN. • Started annual leaf pickup. WATER DIVISION WATER PRODUCTION & STORAGE: • Produced 76 M gallons of water: 16 M gallons upper zone and 60 M gallons lower zone. • Injected 260 gallons of sodium hypochlorite, 12% solution to maintain an average chlorine residual of 0.27 PPM throughout the system. • Continued daily monitoring of all pump stations and routine maintenance on all pumps, motors, chlorination equipment, analyzers, grounds, buildings, controls, testing, water sampling, and record keeping. • Monitored and coordinated work for new generator at the Buffalo Hill Well site. • Repaired heaters at Noffsinger Spring. • Moved fuel cell at Buffalo Hill Well site. • Received shipment of chlorine at pump stations. • Met with consultant regarding Water Rate Study. • Constructed base for new generator and fuel cell. • Winterized irrigation systems at pump stations. WATER CONSTR UCTION AND SYSTEM REPAIR: • Tagged 90 delinquent accounts on the West Side of Kalispell. • Completed 165 work orders during the month October. • Continue to work on meter replacement. Have replaced 380 meters as of 10/22/02. • Installed new water service line at 845 2nd Avenue East. • Replaced fire hydrant at West Oregon and 2A Avenue WN. • Repaired fire hydrant at Glenwood & Two Mile Drive. • Completed a 6x3/4" water tap at 358 College Avenue. • hi receipt of a meter test bench. • Completed a 8x3/4" water tap at 1325 2Id Street West. • Repaired service line at Sherry Lane and Sunset Court after a contractor pulled core stop out of the City main. • Completed an 8x8" water tap at Sherry Lane and Sunset Court. • Found an old 314" water service leaking at 2nd Avenue West between 1st Street West and 2 d Street West. Dug and shut off at core stop on the main. • Repaired fire hydrant at Glenwood and Two Mile Drive. WATER CONSTRUCTIONAND SYSTEM REPAIR continued... Replaced curb box and rod at 1802-1/2 5tn Avenue East and at 336 61h Avenue West. Completed six 80/4" water taps at I It]' Avenue West and 8'1' Street West and one 8x8" water tap at 11'h Avenue West and 81h Street West. Completed an 80/4" water tap at 1334 2" d Street West. TRAFFIC SIGNS & SIGNALS DIVISON • Continued regular maintenance of signals, signs, luminaires, barricades, sight obstructions, and Airport lighting. • Reset vandalized pole at Flathead High School. • Pruned trees obstructing various signs in the NW area of Kalispell. • Replaced two street name signs that were vandalized. • Installed two new poles for "Children at play" signs in Lone Pine View Estates. • Removed lilac bushes from the NW corner of 5th Avenue West and 10'h Street West for sight obstruction. • Installed poles and breakaways in the Keno Inn Parking Lot and signed for the Parking Commission. • Checked the beacon and tower at Glacier Park International Airport for moving to City Airport to replace the aging one there now. • Applied skid resistant coating on red concrete sidewalk at 2"d Avenue East & 3`d Street East. • Replaced old security light on TSS building. • Installed four new "Stop" signs at 7t" Street West and 2"d Avenue West and at 3`d Avenue West and 7"' Street West for north/south traffic. • Resigned City Hall parking lot after I" Avenue East was reopened to traffic in front of City Hall. • Placed traffic counter on Sunnyside and Ashley Creek Bridge. • Removed banners for the Hockaday Center. • Installed handicap parking spot at 7th Street and 2"d Avenue West. • Put up C.A.R.E. Banner. • Installed three new sign poles on south side of Hedges School. • Barricaded for the Police the homicide area off Airport Road to assist with evidence gathering. • Moved material files at the Police Department to make room for storage of evidence gathered at the crime scene. • Removed one banner and hung up new banner. • Went to Whitefish to trouble shoot traffic signal problems. WASTEWATER TREATMENT DIVISION • 153 Work orders were completed during the month of October. • 493 Lab tests were performed during the month of October. • 19 Loads of sludge were hauled during October. • 103,800 pounds of bio-solids were pressed. • Permit Report for September 2002: No permit violations.
