EXTERNAL Sept 7th City Council Meeting
Dear City Council,
As a resident of Kalispell I want to encourage the you, in your adoption of the Move 2040 Kalispell Area Transportation
Plan, to support revitalizing Main Street by making it a three -lane road instead of making Downtown a thoroughfare for
yet more traffic. Please also give greater priority in and around Kalispell to providing infrastructure for alternative forms
of transportation -- walking, biking, ride sharing, and bus service as a way to decrease automobile congestion.
Being able to walk without feeling that we take our life in their hands just trying to cross the crazy traffic that is jammed
onto our streets. There is an urgent need for a third lane that will allow turning without holding through traffic to a
standstill. Main street is "sterile", and parking is impossible. Trying to park to take care of business on Main
Street, First Avenue East and First Avenue West is near impossible!
We, the citizens of Kalispell, need more paths, trails, and sidewalks to maneuver around the entire city of Kalispell. But
also, there needs to be a guaranteed funding source to maintain and even expand all the paths, trails, and sidewalks in
and around Kalispell. (The present Kalispell government has been negligent in acquiring and maintaining funding for the
maintenance and upkeep of city projects. This must end.)
The city of Kalispell is comprised of distinct neighborhoods. These MUST NOT be disturbed by future development and
construction. Every city in America has these distinct neighborhoods. They are what fuels and maintains the vibrant
pulse of each and every city in our country. Future planning has a responsibility to safeguard such neighborhoods.
Sincerely,
Christina Granrud
535 East California Street
