EXTERNAL Sept 7th City Council Meeting
Dear City Council,
As a downtown Kalispell business owner for more than thirty years I want to add my encouragement to you, in your
adoption of the Move 2040 Kalispell Area Transportation Plan, to support the following three essential components.
First, for many years my office was on Main Street (I'm now at 345 1st St. E. in a remodeled historic building) and
unfortunately Main Street has become more highway and less a street through our charming downtown; therefore, in
revitalizing Main Street it is essential that it be a three -lane road instead of making it a thoroughfare for yet more traffic.
Fortunately the bypass can now divert through traffic at many access points.
Second, please give greater priority in and around Kalispell to providing infrastructure for "alternative" forms of
transportation (i.e. other than cars) including walking, biking, ride sharing, and bus service as a way to decrease
automobile congestion, make Kalispell more livable and make downtown a more vibrant and attractive place to do
business.
Third, in a nutshell, we need to see 2040 Kalispell Area Transportation Plan to use a "complete street approach" which
focuses on not only the efficient movement of vehicles through Kalispell but the quality of life of the residents and
visitors to our town.
Thank you for your public service and don't hesitate to call me if you have questions or would like additional information.
Sincerely,
Roger Sullivan
