Acceptance of Round Up for Safety Grant from Flathead
Electric
June 21, 2021
BACKGROUND: On May 14, 2021 the Kalispell Police Department submitted an
application for funding through the Round Up for Safety Program with Flathead Electric
in hopes for a funding opportunity to purchase a drone for the police department.
Prior to this the Kalispell Police Department has relied on the Flathead County Sheriff's
Office to assist in many scenarios that lend themselves to drone utilization. The drone
would be assigned to the Special Response Team.
The total cost of the equipment is $8,999 and the grant was approved for the same
amount. There is mandatory training for up to 6 drone operators at a cost of $2,500 that
was not covered by this grant.
RECOMMENDATION: Accept the Round Up for Safety Grant from Flathead Electric
in the amount of $8,999.
FISCAL EFFECTS:

Thank you for your presentation and funding request to Roundup for
Safety. We are pleased to let you know that the Roundup for Safety
Board of Directors has determined that we will fund $8,999 toward the
purchase of a Drone.
Next steps
1. Once your project is completed, fill out the Project Completion Form
(the form can be accessed using the link at the bottom of this email, or
by logging in to your Submittable account and clicking on your
application). To complete this form, you'll need to upload a copy of the
receipt or invoice for the project.
2. Once we receive your Project Completion Form, your Roundup for
Safety Director will contact you to schedule an inspection of the
completed project.
3. Following your successful inspection, your payment will be
processed and your check will be mailed.
It is our policy to hold designated funds for six months following the
month grants are made. This grant will expire November 30, 2021.
Your Project Completion Form (Step 1, above) must be completed by
this date whether or not the project is completed successfully. If the
project has not been completed by that time, the allocated money will
revert back to our general fund. After that time it will be necessary for
you to reapply.
Once again, thank you for thinking of Roundup for Safety, and
congratulations on receiving funding for your safety project! If you
have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Kim Souther
