Subject: EXTERNAL Grain Silo redevelopment on Center Street
After reading the Flathead Beacon post about the upcoming redevelopment of the grain silos, the city should really
reconsider that project.
It states that there will be 230 residential units in this building. And with the average family usually having 2 vehicles (3 if
they have a driving teenager), there is no room to house 460+ parking spots for residents there. Let alone parking for all
the patrons that are going to be going to the restaurant or bar.
The residents will be fighting for their parking spots against the restaurant/bar customers. Or people will be parking at
the mall parking lot and crossing a busy road creating traffic issues.
I don't mind some growth in our small town, but this is not the way to do it, cramming them into a corner lot of 2 busy
streets, just because they want to reinvent the grain silos.
Pretty sure State of Montana has height restrictions on businesses, to prevent skyscrapers from impeding our Big Sky
views. The silos are already several stories high, and they want to add 2 more levels to it for a restaurant & bar. What
does our local Fire departments feel about trying to access that business at the top of that? Will our current fire
equipment reach that, if there was ever emergency?
Again, I don't mind growth or creating housing, but that silo project looks like an eye sore and seeing alot of parking,
traffic, and safety issues. (And not designed for Montana snow loads, lol).
This is just my opinion, you can take it worth a grain of salt, or you can consider some potential future issues that can be
avoided. (230 to 460+ vehicles trying to park on a corner lot and pulling out into traffic of 2 busy streets). Food for
thought.
I pray you have a great weekend.
