[EXTERNAL] East Side Leaf Collection
Good Morning,
This weekend, I received a letter regarding the decision not to collect leaves in Kalispell this spring. As you all know,
because of the early freeze in the fall, many of the leaves did not fall until this winter or spring (whenever there was a
wind event). All over the East side of Kalispell, especially under the mature maples, yards are still full of leaves as many
have not yet raked as leaves continue to fall. Indeed, on my block, only a handful of homes have thoroughly raked their
leaves. Bagging the entirety of a 100-year-old tree is a burdensome and time-consuming affair, and for many of my
neighbors (especially those that are elderly), collecting and bagging the volume of leaves expected may disincentive
them to rake at all. I also doubt that many of the leaves already raked into the street will be removed by the homeowner
despite your notice.
I implore you to reconsider your position not to do any leaf collection this spring and set a single day to do leaf removal
under the mature maples. I expect that if you inform folks of the day of collection, there will be leaves waiting for you in
the street.
Thank you for your reconsideration and acknowledgment of the unique circumstances this year.
