I wanted to again say Thank you for standing up for Flathead and it's people against tighter restrictions. We need to
continue to stand up against Bullock and his new restrictions.
I also wanted to share that I was recently denied healthcare due to my not being able to wear a mask due to medical
issues. I have attached my letter I will be sending to many others.
Thank you,

To whom it may concern:
No one should be refused healthcare because they can't wear a mask.
I was recently refused healthcare because I cannot wear a mask. I went to see a Doctor at the Oncology
& Hematology office. I tried putting the mask on for them but was not able to cover my nose so I was
turned away.
I was seen here about a year ago for abnormal blood levels. We did many tests and to my
understanding I was never actually given a diagnosis. I was told that the levels would be monitored on
the portal. I never heard from the doctor again, went on my life thinking that there was no "formal
diagnoses." This is very frustrating as I have been battling these symptoms for more than a year and
nothing has been done about it.
About a year later, October 2020, 1 applied for a life insurance policy where they requested my medical
records. The results came back that I would either not be able to get any life insurance or over double
the price I was quoted due to my having been diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera. This was news to me
since I was never told I had this diagnosis. I proceeded to call the doctor's office to set up an
appointment to confirm this with the doctor and if in fact I was diagnosed with this a year ago. To find
out a year later that you were given this diagnosis and the doctor did not tell you or begin treatment is
something I cannot wrap my head around. Why wouldn't I have been told? Why wouldn't they have
started treatment right away?
I find it unprofessional and just wrong that I was diagnosed with something of this magnitude and never
told about it or have been treated within the last year. So now, upon finding out from my insurance
provider that I have this, I am being told they refused to treat me because I am not able to wear a mask,
further delaying treating a potentially serious health condition. I was told I would not be able to find
someone who will treat me without a mask. Well, I have and without their help. I would not
recommend them to anyone with the way that they treated me. Makes me wonder how many
additional ill patients have been refused care because of a mask.
Not everyone can wear a mask and being in the medical professional you of all people should know that.
If a rape victim requested not to be seen by a healthcare provider in the same sex that raped them,
would that not be accommodated? If a Muslim female requested not to be seen by examined by a
male, would they not be accommodated? So why question why someone can't wear a mask? You do
not know their background or beliefs. Suicide rates are also skyrocketing at an alarming rate due to all
of these restrictions and masks. What are we doing to help them? Nothing, people are too busy
worrying about whether or not someone has a mask on for a virus with a very high survival rate.
Doctors signed an oath to do no harm. Harm is being done, at an alarming rate. III people are being
turned away from medical clinics, people are being turn away because they cannot wear a mask. Others
are delaying medical care for this very reason, masks, and needlessly suffering or even dying because of
it. I know someone who passed away due to his treatment being delayed because of the fear of COVID-
19. This should NEVER happen. This is why we have medical facilities and doctors in the first place, to
help!
Masks are causing more health issues than doing good to healthy people. Such as: pneumonia or like,
strep, cystic acne, and impetigo just to name a few that have been reported. There are many reasons
why someone may not be able to wear a mask, they shouldn't be punished for it.
From the CDC site:
• Children younger than 2 years old
• Anyone who has trouble breathing
• Anyone who is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without
assistance
• Wearing masks may be difficult for some people with sensory, cognitive, or behavioral issues. If
they are unable to wear a mask properly or cannot tolerate a mask, they should not wear one
Additional reasons one may not be able to wear a mask:
• autism
• disability
• post -traumatic stress disorder, severe anxiety or claustrophobia
• hearing impairment
• Facial deformities or physical trauma
What has happened to compassion and understanding? It is very disheartening that this is happening to
members of our community. I hope to see changes soon before the damage becomes too great.
Sincerely,
Lynsi DeWaard
