Res. 5989, 2021 Forestry AssessmentCITY OF City of Kalispell KALISPELL post Office Box 1997 -Kalispell, Montana 59903-1997 Telephone (406) 758-7000 Fax - (406) 758-7758 REPORT TO: Doug Russell, City Manager FROM: Rick Wills, Finance Director SUBJECT: FY2021 Budget - Urban Forestry Maintenance MEETING DATE: August 17, 2020 BACKGROUND: The Urban Forestry Maintenance Assessment resolution is adopted annually to provide a levy to fund the costs of the City's Urban Forestry Maintenance. For fiscal year 2021, staff is recommending an assessment of $.0047025 per lot or parcel of land within the district, except public streets or rights of way. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that City Council approve Resolution 5989, a resolution levying an assessment for the cost of urban forestry maintenance in the City for the fiscal year 2020-2021. FISCAL EFFECTS: Anticipated revenue to be generated by the assessment is $600,000. ATTACHMENTS: Resolution 5989, Urban Forestry Maintenance Assessment Return to: Kalispell City Clerk PO Box 1997 Kalispell, MT 59903 RESOLUTION NO. 5989 A RESOLUTION LEVYING AN ASSESSMENT FOR THE COST OF URBAN FORESTRY MAINTENANCE IN THE CITY FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2020-2021. WHEREAS, the assessment cost of the Urban Forestry District for the fiscal year 2020-2021 is estimated to be $600,000.00, and WHEREAS, at a public hearing held on the 6th day of July, 2020, the City Council did consider all objections made to said estimate and to the basis of levy and assessment for payment for said cost. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KALISPELL, MONTANA: SECTION 1. That a tax levied for the assessment cost, or $600,000.00, be in the amounts set opposite the description of each lot or parcel of land, as shown by the special assessment lists on file in the office of the City Finance Director. SECTION 2. The amount of said tax shall be levied proportionately on a square foot basis in the amount of $.0047025 per lot or parcel of land within the district, except public streets or rights of way. Tax levy amount shall be capped at $413.00 per residential parcel and $825.00 per commercial parcel.
