Kalispell City Council:
The heavily armed militia that showed up at the peaceful "Black Lives
Matter" rally in Depot Park was absolutely inappropriate and very
dangerous, not to mention the intimidation factor. What if a round of
ammunition was accidentally fired? What if it accidentally wounded or
killed someone? Keeping the peace and protecting persons and property is
a job for law enforcement, not a bunch of self-appointed vigilantes.
Many people attending the rally were made very uncomfortable by all the
heavily armed, stone-faced men. We didn't know if one of them might go
ballistic and start shooting. If these people want to show up at a rally
they should join in (with their own signs) and leave the heavy artillery
at home. I am still perplexed as to why the police didn't ask the
militia folks to either put away their arms or ask them to move to a
separate area to show off their fire power.
