RE: AIRPORT HEIGHT REGULATIONS
The best approach for regulating height in the area surrounding the airport is the adoption
of some version of the FAA model ordinance, which incorporates many aspects of the Part 77
protection zones/slopes utilized by the FAA. While we have not yet adopted the model
ordinance, Peccia & Associates has prepared a draft for our consideration. We anticipate that the
City will adopt the model ordinance in the near future, and that the County will adopt a similar
ordinance covering property outside the city limits.
While we have not yet adopted the model ordinance, it is important to understand that we
have had airport height regulations in place for quite some time. Our regulations designate a
perimeter boundary for the airport and apply height limitations as specified in the Montana Code.
The current regulations substantially mirror the FAA model ordinance, although they only apply
within the city limits.
