Subject:[EXTERNAL] State of Emergency Declaration
As a homeowner in the city of Kalispell, it is my opinion that there is no need at this time to declare a
state of emergency. With fewer than 300 deaths out of 1 million+ people in the state, this does not
constitute an emergency, especially when those deaths cannot all be attributed to the coronavirus.
I also do not think the Kalispell City Manager should get any powers to make this type of decision
alone. Every decision should be made by city council members in a vote by the entire council and
open to public comment prior to the vote.
Allowing the City Manager, an appointee, such power is overkill. What can he/she declare
next? Martial law? Gun grabs? No! Let's keep Montana MONTANA!
Please preserve our legal right to due process. If this is about declaring a state of emergency in order
to get federal funds, then we, the citizens and business owners of Kalispell, deserve the right to help
decide how that money is spent.
Respectfully,
Laura Martin
