E2. Roundup for Safety Grant AcceptanceCITY 7tialM. KALISPELL MEMORANDUM To: Doug Russell — City Manager Cc: Keith Haskins, PE — City Engineer From: Susie Turner, PE — Public Works Director Re: Acceptance of Flathead Electric Roundup for Safety Grant Meeting Date: March 2, 2020 BACKGROUND: In a recent speed study the Public Works Department completed along 4th Avenue East, it was noted traffic within the school zone was exceeding the posted speed limit. Roughly 85% of the vehicles were speeding in the school zone. There are currently standard school zone signs at each end of the school zone on 41h Avenue East. To improve the awareness of the school zone, the Public Works Department is proposing the installation of driver feedback signs telling oncoming traffic their speed. To offset some of the costs of these new signs, the Public Works Department submitted a grant application to the Roundup for Safety Program. The grant request was successful and $8,000 was allocated to this project by the Roundup for Safety Program. The total cost for this project is $10,656.58. REQUESTED MOTION: Accept the $8,000 grant from the Roundup for Safety program and approve the expenditure of $2,656.58 from Traffic Signal Line Item 92500-421-430264-243 to pay for the remaining project cost. FISCAL EFFECTS: The City of Kalispell will pay the remaining $2,656.58 out of the Traffic Signal Line Item 92500-421-430264-243. After this expenditure, the remaining fund balance will be $21,078.42 201 1' Avenue E IPhone (406)758-7720 PO Box 1997 Public Works Department Fax (406)758-7831 Kalispell, MT 59903 1 www.kalispell.com
