RESOLUTION NO. 4401
A RESOLUTION DEDICATING THE FORMAL GARDEN IN WOODLAND PARK AS TEE
PIETER DRENT FORMAL GARDEN AND TO PROVIDE AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Pieter Drent served the citizens of Kalispell as the
City Parks Director from September 4, 1973 to September 18, 1987;
and
WHEREAS, with his tenacity, determination, stubbornness and
innovative ways melded together with his devotion to flowers, trees
and green spaces he gave to this community a legacy which deserves
preservation and nurturing; and
WHEREAS, he built a swimming pool but couldn't swim; tennis
courts but didn't play tennis; baseball fields but didn't even
understand the game but he explained, "I always did things for the
kids because grown ups can take care of themselves"; and
WHEREAS, as a result of his efforts Woodland Park has been
recognized by the citizens of this community and of the state as a
jewel for all to enjoy.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
KALISPELL, MONTANA AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION X. The City of Kalispell, with the highest respect
for the accomplishments of its dedicated employee, hereby dedicates
the formal garden in Woodland Park as the "Pieter Drent Formal
Garden."
RRCTiON II. Through this dedication, we call to the attention
of those who, in future years, enjoy the beauty and serenity of
Woodland Park and its formal garden, the identity of the person
responsible for them. It is proper that we do this as a fitting
tribute to perpetuate the memory of Pieter Drent.
SECTION III. The City Manager is hereby directed to prepare
appropriate signs to carry out the wishes of the council in this
matter.
SECTION IV. This Resolution shall become effective immediately
following its passage by the City Council.
