Public Works Director Meeting Date: 10/28/2019 Re: Woodland and 2nd Street/Conrad Intersection Improvements The Woodland and 2nd Street/Conrad intersection is located in the City of Kalispell and all streets at this intersection are designated Urban State Routes. Due to the crash history at this intersection, it was nominated and approved as a Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP). HSIP projects are funded via a combination of State and Federal funds. Working together, MDT and the City of Kalispell identified the need for improvements at this intersection based on safety performance. The improvement objectives of this project include: • improve the safety of the intersection including reducing the frequency and severity of crashes, • reduce, if possible, the steep grade on the east approach to the intersection, accommodate pedestrian and bicycle traffic at the intersection, • address accessibility deficiencies at the intersection, and • construct an improvement generally within the existing footprint of the intersection and roadway approaches. During the work session MDT, MDT's consultant, and the City will present a summary of the project overview and need, concept development process, public process, current phase, and the next steps. A project website has been created by MDT and can be found at the following link https://www.mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/woodland/.
