EEC-RAS Files 1.0 INTRODUCTION TA Landvors hired Ply SJ to determine the boundaes of the Stillwater River 1 oo-year lloodplain through the proposed Silverbrook Estates develo me rat in Flathead County, Montana. The project is generally located within Section 1 Township 28 ITT Range 22 W as shown on Figure I. This report presents hydrology and hydraulic methodologies, data, and results of the flood lax � study, 2.0 FIELD WORK site visit was performed on June 27, 2006 by Dan March of 1 S& . During this site visit river cross section locations were selected, photographs taken and hydraulic model parameters assessed. Proposed cross section locations were narked on a map and passed along to the project surveyor, F and H Land Surveying, Inc. (PLS)of Whitefish Montana. During the site visit, high water marks in the form of sediment lines on the vegetation were noted. These high water narks were the result of a high flow evert that peaked on June 20, 2006. This information was passed along to F and Land Surveying and elevations documented during their collection of river dross section data. Five channel l oodplain cross -sections weresurveyed as shown on Figure. In addition, F and H Land Surveying produced a two -foot y gp contour map of the entire project area (Figure . All survey data is based on the NAVD88 vertical datum, 390 HYDROLOGY The l 0-year design flow for the Stillwater River at the project site was developed in accordance with Guidelines for Determining Flood Flow Frequency (Revised)", l also no n as "Bullets l'7B (U.S. Interagency "' .Advisory Committee on Water Data, 1982). This was done using the data from the a in g g g station on the Stillwater liver near Witeb, MT (US GS Gaging Station � l 000 (US�S, oo (See Append and then transferring the data to the project location using the gaging transfer method in "'Analysis of the Magnitude and Frequency of Flood and the Peak -Flow Gaging Network in Montan , "' Hydrology computations are presented in Appendix B. 4.0 HYDRAULIC MODELING .hydraulic modeling was completed using the US Arm o of n `veers' River Analysis System IE - AS) (United States Array Corps of Engieers,, oo software. This software was used to perform one-dimensional stead flow rimier h y hydraulics calculations. The software is the industry standard tool for floodplain angysis. Cross Water Surface Section Elevation 1 2969.2 2 2969.8 0....+ 2970.9 2971.5 new Floodplain map was developed based on the computed water surface elevations above and the topographic map developed by F and H Land Surveying s shown on Figure 2. Appends : BEC-RAS Files present input/output data from the HE-RAS model. It includes water surface elevations at each surveyed cross section a plot of the water surface profile along the entire model, flow profile plot, and the output table showing grater surface elevations. 7.0 SUMMARY A detailed study of the floodplain of the Stillwater River at the ; ro proposed eet Project site was preformed using the HEC-RAS computer model. This detailed study was based on accurate data provided by licensed surveyors and hydraulic engineers.
