SUBJECT: Street Tree Commission Appointment
BACKGROUND: The purpose of the Kalispell Street Tree Commission is to study the problems
and determine the needs of the City of Kalispell in connection with its tree planting, protection,
maintenance and removal. The Commission is also tasked with assisting staff, council and the
citizens of the city in the dissemination of news and information regarding the selection, planting
and maintenance of trees within the corporate limits, whether the same be on private or public
property, and to make such recommendations from time to time to the City Council, as to
desirable legislation concerning the tree program and activities for the city.
The Street Tree Commission is made up of six members appointed by the Mayor with the
approval of the Council. The Commission currently has two vacancies and one applicant.
RECOMMENDATION: Mayor Johnson appoint Martin Rippens to the Street Tree
Commission, followed by a motion from Council confirming their approval of the Mayor's
appointment.

I have spent my working career as a Licensed Landscape Contractor and Certified
Arborist in Southern California. I feel that my knowlege and experience could be of
Service to the City Of Kalispell Street Tree Commission. Being retired, I have the time,
interest and experience to serve this Commission.

Having been in the Landscape and Arborist field for over 40 years, I feel my knowledge
and experience would be beneficial to this Board.
