Mr. Chris Kukulski, City Manager
City of Kalispell
Kalispell, MT 59903 -1997
Dear Mr. Kukulski:
AIRPORTS DISTRICT OFFICE
FAA Building, Suite 2
2725 Skyway Drive
Helena, MT 59602
This letter is in response to our phone conversation July 12, 2000, and is an attempt to
clarify our letter dated July 10, 2000 regarding our financial support for the proposed
improvements at Kalispell City Airport. As we have indicated, we would support
developing the Kalispell City Airport through Federal Airport Improvement Program
funding to meet no less than aircraft and approach category B-II airport design standards
and subject to the conditions stated in our previous letters. As we indicated, we would
not be in a position to fund removal of the existing radio towers.
As we discussed, items yet to be resolved by the city would include; completion of the
environmental process which would include consideration of site alternatives. one of the
maI or concerns that we have in addition to completing the environmental process is
successfully completing the land acquisition process. one item that could be included
during the environmental assessment phase would be a land acquisition plan that would
more specifically identify land interests and costs, parcels to acquire and other means of
land use control. Additionally, informational meetings with potential affected land
owners may be conducted to assess environmental impacts_ From the land acquisition
plan we and the City would be in a better position to assess ghat our respective financial
involvement would be in acquiring the land.
As discussed previously, additional items to be resolved would include the establishment
of compatible land use around the airport including adequate zoning and resolution of
airport "through the fence" agreements. You had advised that we would be sent a copy of
the City's zoning ordinance around the airport. we also discussed the need to establish
compatible land use to the south of the airport which may fall outside the City's
jurisdiction.
Please contact our office at (406) 449-5230 if you have any further questions or
comments.
Sincerely,
